Geetharthamu

The Geetharthamu performance by children on the first day of the Chicago Tyagaraja Utsavam has steadily grown to be a regular feature at the annual Chicago Tyagaraja Utsavam music festival. Chicago Tyagaraja Utsavam is glad to announce that this group performance will be held at the end of the Homage to Tyagaraja performances on Saturday, May 25, 2024.

Participation Guidelines:

Participants must be between 10 and 20 years old as of the Memorial Day weekend. Participants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Participants should have been part of one or more CTU Geetharthamu performances during the Memorial Day festival

OR

  • Participants should have fully learnt the following Krithis at CTU Pancharatnam practice sessions:

Geetharthamu and Sri Ganapathini
Jagadananda Karaka
Dudukugala
Sadhinchane
Kanakana Ruchira
Endaro Mahanubhavulu

Practice Schedule:

At the request of CTU, Vasanthi Iyer will review the Geetharthamu kriti during practice sessions. It is the responsibility of the student to learn the kriti before the first practice session.

The practice schedule for Geetharthamu is the same as the schedule for the G-Shruti Pancharatnam practice sessions. Geetharthamu practice sessions will be held at the end of the G-Shruti Pancharatnam practice sessions. Additional practice sessions may be scheduled as needed.

The first Geetharthamu practice session will be held on Sat, Apr 6, 2024.
