CTU 2009 Western Orchestra

CTU announces the 2009 Western Orchestra conducted by Smt. Revati Natesan. Children will perform Tyagaraja Kritis using the Western musical notation composed by Smt. Revati Natesan’s mother, the late Indu Mami.

CTU 2007 Western Orchestra

The Western Orchestra will be held during the Memorial Day 2009 festival. The exact date and time of this performance will be announced after the complete program schedule has been finalized.

Auditions for individual performers will commence Feb 2009.   Practice session will begin Apr 2009 and the specific dates and times will be announced later.

Western Orchestra Application Deadline: 15 Feb 2009

CTU will apply the following criteria — in no particular order — when determining the children who will be part of this orchestra:

  • Ability of the student to render Carnatic Kritis using Western notation on the instrument of his/her choice.
  • Familiarity of the student with the Kritis to be performed
  • Attendance of the student at the practice sessions
  • Need for the given instrument in the Orchestra
  • Prior experience performing in the CTU Western Orchestra

While all interested children are strongly encouraged to apply, preference will be given to children who:

  • are 12 years or older as of Mar 1st 2009
  • have been learning the instrument of choice for four years or more at school

Please note that CTU may not be in a position to process applications received after the Western Orchestra Registration Deadline (see above).
