CTU 2018 Call for Indian Folk Dance Performance

Chicago Tyagraja Utsavam (CTU) invites submissions for an Indian folk dance performance to be held as part of the Procession on Sun, 27 May 2018, the second day of the 42nd Memorial Day Festival at the Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago.

Submission Deadline: Sun, 1 Apr 2018

This dance performance culminates the procession of children and adults dressed in colorful, traditional South Indian attire gently pulling a cart to the accompaniment of South Indian Classical music on wind instruments.

Over the years, the folk dance has complemented or augmented the general theme for the festival and showcases diverse cultural segments from various parts of India.

The folk dance is usually performed by at least 6 dancers who showcase a particular theme to lilting music with a fast-paced rhythm that aligns with the festive ambiance.  About 200 to 250 people take great pleasure in watching this outdoor performance on the premises of the Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago.  The performance is for 5 to 10 minutes.

Folk Dance performers are required to be present at the temple by 8:30 AM with a properly functioning audio system and media that can be used to play the accompanying music.  CTU can make arrangements for an audio system with advance notice.   The Folk Dance performance will be outdoors on a carpeted area.
