Innovative Vocal and Violin Camp on Indian Classical Music

Chicago Tyagaraja Utsavam is glad to announce an innovative Vocal and Violin camp conducted by Violin Maestro Ganesh Rajagopalan from 1 Aug 2015 to 15 Aug 2015 in Naperville, IL.

Camp Conductor. Indian classical violin maestro Ganesh Rajagopalan (of Ganesh Kumaresh duo brothers) has been an internationally renowned performer and composer for past four decades. He was a child prodigy and has been performing since the young age of seven. He rose to stardom performing with legends like Tabla maestro Zakir Hussain. As a solo violinist, he is being sought after by Oscar winner and Bollywood’s famous music director A. R. Rahman as well as many other legends world wide like John McLaughlin of Shakti fame.

Camp attendees have an opportunity to learn innovative skills from an internationally renowned performer.  CTU is also considering a performance by the camp attendees at a future CTU event.

Camp Details

Date: 1 Aug 2015 to 15 Aug 2015

Times:

  • Batch 1 (up to 10 students): 9:00 am —12:00 pm every day
  • Batch 2 (up to 10 students): 1:00 pm — 4:00 pm every day

Location: Naperville, IL

Fees and Payment– Updated 6 Aug 2015

  • A student can be part of only one batch each day.
  • A non-refundable, fixed fee of $250 must be paid for each student participating in a given batch.
  • For example, a student who attends Batch 1 every day for 15 days must pay a total of $250.  The amount to be paid is the same regardless of the number of batches attended.

  • Other instrumentalists (Carnatic & Western) may attend

 What will be covered

Students attending this camp will learn:

  • Simple compositions to understand ragas & lyrics
  • How to do Sadhana (practice) and what improves it
  • How to improvise, compose and enhance creativity
  • How to improvise presentation of Kalpana Swaras and Alapana
  • How and what to practice

Session Format

Formats under consideration depending upon the registrations received:

  • Intermediate/Advanced Vocal
  • Intermediate/Advanced Violin
  • Vocal-Violin interactions

Special batch sessions

Additional special sessions will be held to address the following:

  • Cross the bridge from Western music to Carnatic Music
  • Improvising music on other instruments
