Profile
Dr. Kamala Reddy, as one of the distinguished disciples of Guru Vempati Chinna Satyam, has been invited to perform at the Music Academy and Krishna Gana Sabha, Chennai; ICCR and Sangeet Natak Academy, New Delhi; Konark festival, Puri; Shanmukhananda Hall, Mumbai to name a few. She has played lead roles in many of Guruji’s Kuchipudi ballets presented in the Netherlands, Hungary, and France and has toured extensively with him, Her roles as Rukmini in “Rukmini Kalyanam”, Parvathi in “Hara Vilasam” and Srinivasa Kalyanam”, and later as “Padmavathi” in “Srinivasa Kalyanam”, “Shakuntala” in “Abhignyana Shakuntalam” to name a few, have won her accolades amongst critics and connoisseurs of dance.
She established the Kala Niketan Academy of Indian classical dance in Pittsburgh in 1991. Kamala and her students have performed all over the USA in Guru Vempatti’s magnum opus ballets like, Chandalika, Sri Krishna Parijatham and Rukmini Kalyanam.
In 2012, she received the coveted Vamsi Puraskar award for her contributions to Kuchipudi. Some notable past recipients of this award, include her Guru Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam, Smt. Vyjayanthi Mala, Smt. Hema Malini and Miss Shoba Naidu.
In addition to being an accomplished dancer and teacher, Dr. Kamala Reddy is a practicing endocrinologist and lives in Pittsburgh with her husband Dr. Gopinath Rajupet, and their three children, Shankar, Soumya and Siddharth.

Chicago Tyagaraja Utsavam invites you to a full day of festivities starting with the Pancharatnam program in the morning followed by a sumptuous lunch and Homage to Tyagaraja performances throughout the day with snacks and dinner. The rates for attending the all-day program inclusive of this dance program, lunch and dinner are provided below:
Single: $40, Couple*: $60
* Couple rates apply to husband and wife only. Dependent children / youth are allowed free of charge with parents. Seats are guaranteed only for adults.
