Maa Kolam, Music and Chanting by CTU children
At Chicago Kali Bari on 19 Oct 2019

Sat, 19 Oct, 2019 is a unique day for Chicago Tyagaraja Utsavam with a 3-part program that involves CTU children sharing various art forms at the Chicago Kali Bari in Glen Ellyn .

Maa Kolam by CTU Children at 10 AM

The day starts with CTU trained children putting Maa Kolam with a creative design of their choice at the entrance to the Chicago Kali Bari on premise.  This will start at 10 am.  All families are welcome to come and encourage these children as well as bring their own children for them to familiarize themselves with one of our most traditional art forms.  Artwork submitted by CTU trained children who participated in the Maa Kolam workshop conducted earlier this year will be showcased during the Accompanied Performances program.

Lunch

All families are welcome to enjoy lunch served downstairs at the Chicago Kali Bari.  This includes attendees for Maa Kolam as well as the families bringing their children to chant the Mahishasuramardhini Stotram and Accompanied Performances (see below).

Accompanied Performances

Chicago Tyagaraja Utsavam is glad to announce the 2019 Accompanied Performances from 12 PM onwardsPlease see detailed schedule below. Please see Latest Announcements for more information about the Accompanied Performances. We welcome everyone to come, attend and encourage these children for these performances.

  • Note: The Accompanied Performances program will be held downstairs.  We understand from Chicago Kali Bari that the only elevator — that was working all this time — is temporarily out of service.  Stairs are the only access for attendees to go downstairs.  It is not clear whether the elevator will be fixed before Oct 19, 2019.  There is wheelchair access to the street level which is where the Maa Kolam and Mahishasuramardhini events will be held.

Mahishasuramardhini stotram

Chicago Tyagaraja Utsavam (CTU) is glad to announce — for the first time ever — the chanting of the Mahishasuramardhini Stotram  at 1 PM in the Main Hall of the Chicago Kali Bari.  Children are requested to join us in the morning for the Maa Kolam session, have lunch and then assemble by 12:45 PM in the Main Hall.

Please find below the detailed schedule for the day.
