CTU 2021 Fall Program — Call for submissions

Chicago Tyagaraja Utsavam is glad to announce the CTU 2021 Fall Program with music and dance performances by upcoming generations of talented individuals around North America. Submissions for Performance requests are welcome from interested individuals around North America.

This is a special event where CTU is calling on residents of the State of Illinois for their support by doing the following:

  • Extending an invitation to their own networks of talented individuals around North America to submit these performance requests
  • Hosting the individuals selected to perform during the event
  • Helping out with the coordination and execution of the event
  • Providing their financial support

This Fall Program is planned for two days – Saturday and Sunday – dates to be determined at the Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago, Lemont, IL.

Tentative Program Schedule

  • Sat, 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Composer One musical performances
  • Sat, 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM. Composer Two musical performances
  • Sat, 5:30 PM to 8 PM. Dance Performances
  • Sun, 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Composer Three musical performances
  • Sun, 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM. Composer Four musical performances

Performance Guidelines

  • Duration of Performance – 1 to 2 hours — to be determined based on the proficiency and experience of the individual.
  • Program segments will be specific to different composers. Duration of program segments to be determined based on number of submissions selected for performance
  • One performance per individual. Note: Accompaniments may be provided for multiple performances.
  • All selected performers will have to make their own travel and accommodation arrangements.
  • All selected performers will have to make their own arrangements for accompaniments.
  • All performances will be broadcast live on YouTube and Facebook subject to connectivity being available

Submission Guidelines

  • Submissions must include the following information
    • Name, Contact Information
    • Name of Latest Teacher
    • Name of Recommending Musician
    • Link to a video recording of their performance with accompaniments highlighting various aspects of Manodharmam including Alaapanai, Neraval and Kalpana Swaram. 
  • CTU will work with a team of subject matter experts to review these submissions and announce the list of selected participants and the duration of their programs, a month before the Fall Program.

Participation Guidelines

  • One performance per lead participant
  • Up to three performances for each accompanying participant

Payment and Donation Guidelines

Please note that all fees are non-refundable.

  • Registration Fee for all submissions – $50 per individual
  • Participation Fee for selected participants
    • Out of state participants – donations of any amount welcome
    • State of IL performers –
      • Lead Participants – $50 per participant
      • Accompanying Participants – $20 per participant
  • Attendance Fee
    • State of IL attendees – $10 per individual per day
    • Out of state performers – Donations of any amount welcome

CTU will distribute boxed food packets for everyone attending and participating in the event.
